hey there Jim Hart here with another quick tip episode today this is Tuesday and today what I want to share with you is the question do you have to renew your trademark a lot of people are very confused by this I talked to a number of people on potential client calls who are wondering well okay I filed it I registered it now how long do I actually have that trademark and heres the thing to have a trademark you actually have to be using that Mark in Commerce so for some reason you decide to stop using that Mark and commerce number one youre going to lose it and so what the Trademark Office does is they actually require that every uh after first after your first five years of using your mark youre going to need to renew it then five years after that youll need to renew it again and show that youre still using it and then every 10 years after that you continue to renew it so Jim Hart here again with another quick tip hopefully that helps you understand when and how to renew your trad

A trademark registration becomes dead when the application wasnt completed or maintained. Once you stop using the trademark, your trademark rights become abandoned, creating an opportunity for someone else to acquire the rights.
Statement of Use is a trademark. Abandoned means that the application is no longer pending and, thus, cannot mature into registration.
