To count the number of words in only part of your document, select the text you want to count. Then on the Tools menu, click Word Count.
In the Proofing section, click on Custom Dictionaries and then Edit Word List. Here, you can add words that you want Word to ignore. Once youve added all the words you want to ignore, click OK to save your changes. When you close and then reopen the document, Word will no longer flag those words as errors.
Click in your document where you want the word count to appear. Click Insert Quick Parts Field. In the Field nameslist, click NumWords, and then click OK. To update the word count, right-click the number, and then choose Update Field.
Go to References Table of Contents. Select Custom table of contents. Use the settings to show, hide, and align page numbers, add or change the tab leader, set formats, and specify how many levels of headings to show.
If not showing, select Home Show/Hide to show section breaks. Note: The type of section break shown above is a Continuous section break; there are other types of section breaks. Place your cursor just before the section break and press Delete.
The ability to collapse and expand content in your document is based on its outline level. You can quickly add an outline level and make part of your document collapsible by adding a heading using Words built-in styles.

Protect a document and mark the parts that can be changed. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. In the Editing restrictions area, select the Allow only this type of editing in the document check box.
