What EGT temperature is too high?

Keeping EGTs below 1,200 degrees is an accepted safe limit for towing. Excessively high EGTs are the result of a rich air/fuel ratio and are typically realized when engines are modified.

What is an EGT delete?

What is an EGR Delete? An EGR delete is a process of removing the emission control technology using a special kit. The kit removes the EGR valve, which pushes the engine to perform without recirculating the exhaust.

What EGTs are acceptable?

Commonly, diesel performance enthusiasts will ask: Whats a safe EGT? The short answer is anything sustained below 1350 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable by most OEM standards so long as your other engine temperatures remain within safe boundaries.

How can I reduce my EGTs?

What happens if EGT gets too hot?

During normal operation of such vehicles, EGTs usually stay within safe limits, but situations can occur where the EGT gets too high, doing serious engine damage without any warning to the driver. A pyrometer that displays a diesels EGT can warn the driver of dangerous conditions before such damage occurs.

How do you reduce the temperature of exhaust gas?

The reduction occurs by reintroducing in the engine cylinders of a part of the exhaust gases. Thus, the amount of molecular oxygen in the cylinders reduces, which, by changing the combustion rate of the fuel, reduces the temperature per cycle.

Can a EGT sensor be cleaned?
