You can use an ellipsisthree consecutive periods, with one space around each ( . . . )to leave out extra or unnecessary words. The ellipsis represents information that you are omitting from a quotation.
If you remove text from the end of a sentence but continue quoting from the following sentence, use four spaced ellipsis points (. . . .) to indicate the removal of material from between the sentences.
An ellipsis () is a set of three periods that indicates the omission of words from quoted material or can be used to show a pause in a conversation.
If you omit a word or words from a quotation, you should indicate the deleted word or words by using ellipses, which are three periods ( . . . ) preceded and followed by a space.
Show missing words or ideas with ellipses The ellipsis (plural ellipses) is a character of exactly 3 dots. Use the ellipsis: if you omit words in quoted text. to mark an unfinished phrase, clause or sentence.
Omissions of material from a quoted passage, whether run-in or block, should be indicated by ellipsis points (three spaced dots) positioned on the line and separated by one space from the preceding text or from any punctuation marks that follow it.
An ellipsis ( ) consists of three evenly spaced periods and is used to indicate the omission of words or suggest an incomplete thought. In general, an ellipsis should be treated as a three-letter word, with a space, three periods and a space.
