Content reuse is an approach where authors create a chunk of content and then use that same chunk anywhere its needed. This method allows for rapid changes and updates to existing content across all instances where its used, as well as fast creation of new variations of information, based on existing content.
To cover separate content such as concepts, tasks, reference, the DITA standard specifies different information types. Each information type defines structured elements that aid in authoring the relevant content. For example, the task type defines elements such as , , , and .
DITA allows for content reuse through mechanisms like maps, topics, key-based referencing, and conditional referencing. A DITA map is a container that references various topics or content modules.
Create a reusable topic Navigate to the Repository. Click the contextual menu next to the reuse folder. Choose Create Dita Topic. Populate the fields in the Create New Topic dialog. For example: Click Create. Add content to the topic as required.
Creating a DITA Topic in Oxygen XML Editor Select File New or click the New button on the toolbar. Step Result: The New Document Wizard is displayed: Go to Framework templates DITA topic and select the type of topic that you want to create. Select a file path where it will be saved. Click Create.
