Once youve added an image to your README.md, you might want to resize it to fit properly within the file. Markdown itself doesnt offer a native way to resize images, but you can leverage HTML tags within your Markdown file to achieve this. In this example, the width attribute is set to 200 pixels.
Different Markdown implementations may have different extensions or features to support image resizing, but they are not universally supported or consistent. One common workaround is to use raw HTML tag to insert an image and specify its basic attributes like width , height , style , and more.
Maximum image file size By default, GitLab only rescales images that are at most 250kB in size. This is to prevent excessive memory consumption on Workhorse nodes and to keep latencies in reasonable bounds.
The format is width:height , e.g. 4:3 or 2:3 . In case you want to resize the image to an explicit size, you can also set this size here, e.g. 512:768 . You then set smallerside setting to 512 and the resulting image will always be 512x768 pixels large.
How to resize an image. Select. Upload your JPG or PNG to our image resizer tool. Resize. Choose a size template based on the social platform or add your own. Continue editing. Instantly download your resized image or keep editing in docHub Express.
replace ![ image]() with As mentioned by @cbestow (thanks!), its not mandatory to set both width and height . If only one is set, the other will be adjusted ingly to preserve the aspect ratio of the image.
If you need to resize an image and your Markdown processor supports HTML, you can use the img HTML tag with the width and height attributes to set the dimensions of an image in pixels. The rendered output will contain the image resized to the dimensions you specified.
