hey everybody every day it seems someone discovers that verse 21 is not in most modern translations of Matthew chapter 17. it just Skips from verse 20 to verse 22. for some reason this is always the verse that everybody discovers this on even though there are over a dozen other similar verses that are absent from most contemporary translations of the Bible and with all of the end times nonsense thats being proliferated right now it seems to be more of a concern to a lot of people but there is a perfectly reasonable and rational explanation for why most contemporary Bibles just skip from verse 20 to 22 and that explanation is that we know it was not what the author originally wrote we have enough manuscripts that are ancient enough that we can tell it was something that was added later to the text in order to harmonize that story with the same story in Mark chapter 9. 4 for instance lets take a look at codex vaticanus this is one of our earliest and most reliable textual witnesses to

The theology behind a sin of omission derives from James 4:17, which teaches Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, commits sin. Its opposite is the sin of commission, i.e. a sin resulting from an action performed.
I then became aware that whole verses had been omitted from the NIV Bible. If you have an NIV look up these verses; John 5:4, Mathew 23:14, Mathew 17:21, Mathew 18:11, Mark 7:16, Mark 9:44, Mark 9:46, Mark 11:26, Mark 15:28, Luke 17:36, John 5:4, Acts 8:37, Acts 15:34, Acts 24:7, Acts 28:29, Romans 16:24.
Today, most critical editions of the Greek New Testament, such as UBS4 and NA27, consider the Alexandrian text-type corrected by papyri, to be the Greek text that is closest to the original autographs.
King James I and the Geneva Bible In all likelihood, he saw the Genevas interpretations of some biblical passages as anti-clerical republicanism, which could imply church hierarchy was unnecessary. Other passages appeared particularly seditious: notably, references to monarchs as tyrants.
Matthew 17:21 Reason: The verse closely resembles Mark 9:29, but it is lacking in Matthew in א (original handwriting), B, , some Italic, Syriac, Coptic and Ethiopic manuscripts. It is, however, found in this place in some Greek mss not quite so ancient C, D, K, L as well as some other mss of the ancient versions.
He replied, Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. Here Jesus is giving another tip for this mustard seed faith to develop. Unanswered prayer and change in circumstances can go by faith which can be developed only in fasting and prayer. Godly prayer with fasting releases breakthrough spiritual power.
Unfortunately the authors of the NIV decided to remove certain verses from the main Biblical text because the oldest and most reliable manuscripts do not have them. But all the verses that have been taken out are found in the footnotes.
