This summer, children in the Rio Grande Valley participated in a UTRGV chess camp, where they learned from Grandmaster Alex Mistah, the program manager. Parents signed up their children, including two sons, to take advantage of this opportunity to learn from the best. Eighteen students engaged in various activities such as tournaments and puzzle-solving. The camp also featured assistance from fellow Grandmaster Vladimir Belov, a member of UTRGV's national collegiate chess championship team. Many current members of the chess team began their journey in similar camps, highlighting the nurturing environment where young players can improve their skills through games and interaction with experienced players.
