HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. XHTML stands for Extensible Hypertext Markup Language. Both of these are used to develop web-based and android-based applications.
XHTML requires that all attribute values (e.g., font size) are quoted even the numeric ones. There is no such requirement in HTML. For a document to be valid XHTML, attributes cannot be minimized. There are also some minor differences in the way both languages handle empty elements.
XHTML documents must use lower case for all HTML element and attribute names. This difference is necessary because XML is case-sensitive e.g. and are different tags.
Attribute Minimization Is Forbidden In XHTML, all attributes must be explicitly defined with a value, even if it means repeating the attribute name as its value. For example, a minimized HTML attribute like checked in XHTML must be written as checked=checked.
An XHTML document must have an XHTML declaration. The , , , and elements must also be present, and the xmlns attribute in must specify the xml namespace for the document.
To preserve all the characters for some elements, use the xml:space attribute or the PRE element (only valid for XHTML documents). The possible values for the xml:space attribute are default and preserve . The value default means that an applications default white-space treatment is acceptable for these elements.
J. List of Attributes Attribute NameModuleDescription cite XHTML Hypertext Attributes Module Set the URI for a citation class XHTML Core Attributes Module Set the class of an element colspan XHTML Tables Module Set the number of columns a table cell should span content-length XHTML Object Module Indicate the size of a links target70 more rows
That is, the attribute alone is enough, so that when the attribute is set without a value, it counts as true. In XML-based languages, attribute minimization is disallowed and attributes must have a value; for example, in XHTML, checked is invalid, and must be written checked=checked .
