If you need help Learn what to do if you cant start up from macOS Recovery. If the question mark isnt persistent, but appears only briefly before your Mac starts up, make sure that your startup disk is selected in Startup Disk settings. If that doesnt help, reset NVRAM and check the setting again.
A folder with a flashing question mark means that your computers startup disk is no longer available or doesnt contain a working Mac operating system.
If an apps icon is in the Dock and you delete the app from your Mac, the icon remains in the Dock but is covered by a question mark. Remove the question mark icon: Drag the icon out of the Dock until Remove is shown.
Follow the steps below: Note: You have to enable the option to reset the password using Apple ID. Restart your MacBook. After seeing the login screen, enter an incorrect password three times. In the new pop-up, enter your Apple ID and password and hit the Reset Password button. Activate the Recovery Mode.
Its very easy to get rid of that question mark. Right-click on it, select Options and then Remove From Dock, as shown below. If you havent uninstalled the program in question, the app may have become corrupted. Try reinstalling the application from scratch and that should fix the problem.
Press and release the power button to turn on your Mac. Immediately after releasing the power button, press and hold these two keys on your keyboard: Command (⌘) and R. Keep holding the keys until you see an Apple logo or spinning globe.
