hello genealogy friends I am going to attempt something a little tricky / scary today and I thought youd want to be here for it I have this cabinet card this is not one of my family photos this was purchased on eBay as part of a lot and sadly there is paper on it from paper and glue from a photo being pasted on top of this cabinet card just heartbreaking because its potentially ruined I know very little else about this obviously its in another language I my inclination is to say Dutch but Im that is Im pulling that thin air havent done any research at all theres no names on this but I would like to repair this and I would like to you know listed online hopefully get reconnected to people I am NOT however willing to pay the money to send it into a restoration service and Im sure there will be people out in internet land that condemn me for that but its just not in the genealogy budget to do that kind of pro bono sponsorship right now however I asked people on Instagram if they

First try scraping off the glue with your fingernail. If that doesnt work, try heating or freezing the glue. If youre trying to remove a photo from an album page, first try prying it off with dental floss. Only submerge the photos in water as a last resort.
The adhesive used deteriorates and really glues the photos to the page over time and the cover sleeve tends to shrink over time. The safest and easiest way to get your photos out is by using a simple tool that many of us have in the house already​unwaxed dental floss.
Use a piece of unwaxed dental floss and run it between the picture and the album page with a gentle sawing motion. Un-du, a product commonly used by scrapbookers, is an adhesive remover that may help safely remove the photos.
Slide a thin metal spatula (a micro spatula is preferred) gently under the edge of a photo and then use a hairdryer to heat the spatula as you slide it slowly under the photo. This may heat the glue enough to help you remove the photo safely from the album.
Place it in the freezer for an hour, wearing rubber gloves to protect hands in the event glass breaks, remove the photo and glass from the freezer, and open the paper, gently pull up on the corner of the photo, it should come away from the glass.
