So here is a new paper from the OpenAI lab on creating even smarter AIs than we previously had. But, surprisingly, this paper also shows that smarts are not everything. Now, wait wait wait. How do we know that they are really smart? Well, we give them a bunch of difficult questions and see if it can answer them correctly. Then, we record these answers, compare many AI techniques and make a leaderboard with the best ones. This is from one of our earlier papers called Gaussian Material Synthesis where we taught an AI to synthesize virtual materials and it is also one of the early works in neural rendering, ray tracing with an AI if you will. Now if we look into the paper andyou know, ask for a little help, we getthis. Now I have two questions for you Fellow Scholars: one, is this explanation correct? As far as I see, yes it is. Now, question number two: is it useful? Well, not quite. Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Dr. Kroly Zsolnai-Fehr.

Chord types such as major and dominant seventh chords, or chords with added tensions (ninths, elevenths, and thirteenths) tend to be voiced by leaving out certain notes, especially the major third and perfect fifth.
So, what are avoid notes? An avoid note is any note in the scale that is a half-step away from a note in the chord being played. As an example, playing an F on top of a C major chord sounds dissonant, since its a half step above E, the third of the chord.
The Augmented 4th, or Tritonus, which spans three whole steps in the scale, is one of the most dissonant musical intervals around. It was considered unpleasant and ugly, and was named diabolus in musica - the devil in music - and you wouldnt use anything diabolical to praise the Lord, would you?
In extended chords (7th, 9th, 11th and 13th) the 5th is usually omitted partly to keep these chords from sounding too harmonically dense. The 5th is a very strong-sounding interval, lending itself more to rock than jazzy extended chords.
Well, its possible to omit the less important notes (root 5th) from a chord and only play the guide tones (3rd 7th) and still retain the original feel of the chords. So for example, you could play a: CMaj7 as just E B. C7 as just E B♭ (a tritone interval)
Sometimes, one of the notes from the basic triad is omitted altogether. Power or 5 chords omit the 3rd, blurring the lines between major and minor. In extended chords (7th, 9th, 11th and 13th) the 5th is usually omitted partly to keep these chords from sounding too harmonically dense.
Omitting Notes / Music Theory Lesson. This time, in continuation of sus chords, we will be taking a look at the idea behind omitting notes. This is incredibly useful knowledge when giving chord charts to session players as well. The word Omit refers to removing or leaving out something.
Likewise, an omit5 or omit root just means to leave out whatever note is after omit. For example, a Cmaj7 chord has the notes C, E, G, B. If you omit the 5th, youre left with C, E, and B. The 9th, 11th, and 13th are even less important and can also be omitted.
