The ORDER BY keyword is used to sort the result-set in ascending or descending order. The ORDER BY keyword sorts the records in ascending order by default. To sort the records in descending order, use the DESC keyword.
The ASC command is used to sort the data returned in ascending order.
If you specify the ORDER BY clause, NULL values by default are ordered as less than values that are not NULL. Using the ASC order, a NULL value comes before any non-NULL value; using DESC order, the NULL comes last.
Using SQL Server Management Studio In Object Explorer, right-click the table with columns you want to reorder and select Design. Select the box to the left of the column name that you want to reorder. Drag the column to another location within the table.
By default, SQL Server sorts out results using ORDER BY clause in ascending order. Specifying ASC in order by clause is optional.
If you want to use ascending (low to high) order, you can use the ASC keyword; this keyword is optional, though, as that is the default order when none is specified. If you want to use descending order, put the DESC keyword after the appropriate column (in the example, we used descending order for the salary column).
If you sort a column with NULL values in ascending order, the NULLs will come first. Alternatively, if you add a DESC keyword to get a descending order, NULLs will appear last.
4 Answers Use XML output and apply server-side XSLT transformation (through CLR for instance) with . Use stored procedure to produce sorted list in one text return value. Write own SQL proxy client replacing -- HIDDEN MESSAGE with ORDER BY .
