These postscripts were introduced with the label PS or P.S. When they wanted to add something else after the postscript, it was labelled PPS for post postscript. But many people trying to follow this pattern today mistakenly write PSS instead.
Surprisingly, there are no hard and fast answers to these questions. The Cambridge Dictionary suggests that PS is the proper format in British English. PS Dont forget to let the cat in before you go to bed. The Cambridge Dictionary also says that P.S. (with periods after each letter) is the American English format.
Post script and Post script-script. What does that mean? Post means after, and script means your signature in a letter. So PS and PSS just mean that you thought of something else you wanted to say after having already signed your name.
PPS is a secondary postscript added after the initial PS in your email or correspondence. Its yet another opportunity to add your afterthoughts. This collection of afterthoughts should differ from the ones included in your original postscript. You can write PPS as-is or add periods between each letter, such as P.P.S.
There are a couple of variations when it comes to the punctuation of PS. If youre from the UK, the common punctuation is PS without any periods. In the US, the Cambridge Dictionary recommends P.S. with periods after both letters. However, the Chicago Manual of Style actually prefers PS without periods.
PS means postscript and is a way to include an additional thought at the end of written communication.
Examples of postscript in a Sentence In a postscript to her letter, she promised to write again soon. An interesting postscript to the story is that the two people involved later got married. These examples are programmatically compiled from various online sources to illustrate current usage of the word postscript.
