A lie of omission is when someone intentionally withholds relevant information, leading the other person to believe something untrue. This type of deception can be just as harmful as a blatant lie, if not more so.

To date, research has primarily focused on two types of deception: Lying by commission the active use of false statements and lying by omission the passive act of misleading by failing to disclose relevant information, said lead author Todd Rogers, PhD, of Harvard University.
Omit a Material Fact means the failure to state a material fact required to be stated in any disclosure statement or registration.
There are sins of commission and sins of omission; omitting information and concealing the truth are considered lies when they are done with an intent to deceive. In addition to statements that are false, deception encompasses statements that misrepresent or distort facts as well as the withholding of information.
Not everyone believes that omitting details is the same as lying, and its true there can be a gray area when it comes to divulging information. Not every detail is necessary for accuracy, but deliberately misrepresenting the truth by hiding some of the facts is considered lying by omission.
