To deprecate an AMI on a specific date Select the AMI, and then choose Actions, Manage AMI Deprecation. You can select multiple AMIs to set the same deprecation date of several AMIs at once. Select the Enable check box, and then enter the deprecation date and time.
Within Name box, provide a name for your new AMI. (Optional) Edit the image description available within Description box. Next to Encryption, select Encrypt target EBS snapshots checkbox then choose the required KMS master key (the key used to encrypt the target snapshot) from the Master Key dropdown list.
To update an AMI, launch an instance and update its software. For that instance to have access to the AWS services that it needs, create an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) role with the correct permissions policies attached.
You can find this attribute by going to the EC2 console and choosing AMIs on the left navigation menu. You should see a new column on the AMIs page called Creation Date. To sort your AMIs by creation date, simply click on the column header, or use the search box to filter your AMI results by date.
Users normally delete the AMI when creating or launching an instance is no longer required. Deleting the AMI does not cause any harm to the instances or snapshots associated with it. This means that if an AMI is deleted, the EC2 instances that were created through that AMI will still exist the same way.
You can deregister an AMI when you have finished using it. After you deregister an AMI, you cant use it to launch new instances. When you deregister an AMI, it doesnt affect any instances that youve already launched from the AMI or any snapshots created during the AMI creation process.
Deregister AMIs and delete snapshots using the Amazon Management Console CLI To deregister an AMI, follow the steps below: Go to the AWS EC2 console and AMI section. Select the desired AMI. Next, select the Deregister option in the Actions tab.
Navigate to the EC2 Console. On the left menu, choose Images AMIs. Select the AMI you want to remove, and click Actions. Choose Deregister, then click Continue.
Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console Services EC2 Auto Scaling Launch Configurations. Select a LC Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.
