Important: If you want to change the text of the table of contents, edit the headings in the document body rather than in the table of contents. Once you update the table of contents by clicking the Refresh button, any manual edits you made in the table of contents will be cleared.
Select the paragraph you want to change. Click Format, Paragraph styles and then Borders and shading. In the window that opens, change how you want your paragraph to look. To remove paragraph borders or shading, click Reset.
The only way to avoid all headings from being added to the TOC is to manually apply the style you want rather than using the set styles. Change those headers to Normal style by select each one individually and pressing Ctrl + \ (Control plus the backslash key). This will remove the formatting.
To delete it, right-click and click Delete table of contents. The table of contents reflects the titles and headings in your document. On your computer, open a document in Google Docs.
Once you see the table in the Google Docs document, heres how you delete it. Right-click on any table cell. A menu will pop up. From there, all you need to do is select the Delete table option.
