Abstract. It is argued that intentionally omitting requires having an intention with relevant content. And the intention must play a causal role with respect to ones subsequent thought and conduct. Even if omissions cannot be caused, an account of intentional omission must be causal.
By printing a notice on the page, such as this page has been intentionally left blank, test-takers will not be concerned that their test has been misprinted, especially as test instructions often instruct students to check for missing or blank pages and to report any defective test booklets to a proctor.
The phrase intentionally left blank or intentionally omitted is often inserted immediately preceding the signature blocks, which a drafter would prefer to stay all together on one page or at least the block should tie the party-related lines together.
An intentional omission is the purposeful failure to mention or include the item omitted. In order to intentionally omit something, the omitting person or entity must have knowledge of the item being left out.
When that immediately follows a verb of attribution (said, stated, announced, disclosed), it often can be omitted and the meaning will stay the same. Example: She said (that) it was all a hoax. Better to omit that here. When a time element intervenes between the verb and the dependent clause, that should be used.
As if the reader of a contract has his or her eyes shut: the phrase intentionally left blank or intentionally omitted is a funny phrase sometimes used to uphold an existing numbering of clauses (and to avoid the work to correct cross references after deleting the intentionally left-in clause).
For terminology, youve got some options. Heres how I use them: πŸ”Έ 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚π₯π₯𝐲 𝐎𝐦𝐒𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝: Preferred to signal an intentional decision not to include content while maintaining document structure for reference.
