Deleting Caption Labels Display the References tab of the ribbon. Click the Insert Caption tool, in the Captions group. Word displays the Caption dialog box. Using the Label drop-down list, choose the caption label you want to delete. Click on Delete Label. Click on Cancel to dismiss the Caption dialog box.
On the Insert menu, click Index and Tables, and then click the Table of Figures tab. Click Options, and then select the Style check box. On the Style pop-up menu, click the style name that is used for the figure captions, and then click OK. In the Formats box, click From template, and then click Modify.
If you dont want to give a sub-figure a caption, because the picture itself already contains the caption, or for some other reason, you can use the command \phantomsubcaption instead of \subcaption , or when inside a subfigure or subtable environment \phantomcaption instead of \caption .
It is likely the hidden caption is under one of your figures in a text box. On the Home tab activate the Selection Pane and use that to find the caption. Once you have the text box selected, you can move it, change its wrapping, or delete it and create a new Caption.
To remove a caption label, follow these steps: Display the References tab of the ribbon. Click the Insert Caption tool, in the Captions group. Using the Label drop-down list, choose the caption label you want to delete. Click on Delete Label. Click on Cancel to dismiss the Caption dialog box.
To delete a caption select it and press Delete. When youre finished deleting captions, you should update the remaining set of captions in your document. Press CTRL+A to select all of the text in your document and then press F9 to update all.
When youve opened the Insert Caption dialog box, check the box to exclude label from caption. Enter the caption you want and click OK. Word will enter the caption as a text box with the picture (or figure, or table, etc.). Now you can simply edit the text in the text box and delete the number.
