Basic Authentication is a method for an HTTP user agent (e.g., a web browser) to provide a username and password when making a request. When employing Basic Authentication, users include an encoded string in the Authorization header of each request they make.
The client sends HTTP requests with the Authorization header that contains the Basic word followed by a space and a base64-encoded username:password string. For example, a header containing the demo / p@55w0rd credentials would be encoded as: Authorization: Basic ZGVtbzpwQDU1dzByZA==

The BA mechanism does not provide confidentiality protection for the transmitted credentials. They are merely encoded with Base64 in transit and not encrypted or hashed in any way. Therefore, basic authentication is typically used in conjunction with HTTPS to provide confidentiality.
Manage Basic authentication in the Microsoft 365 admin center. In the Microsoft 365 admin center at , go Settings Org Settings Modern Authentication. In the Modern authentication flyout that appears, you can identify the protocols that no longer require Basic authentication.
