One way to perform a not match operation with regex is by using the caret (^) symbol. In regex, the caret symbol has a special meaning when used at the beginning of a character class. It negates the character class, effectively excluding any characters that match the pattern within the character class.
Excluding ranges They are denoted by a caret character ^ at the start and match any character except the given ones. For instance: [^aeyo] any character except a , e , y or o . [^0-9] any character except a digit, the same as \D .
To represent this, we use a similar expression that excludes specific characters using the square brackets and the ^ (hat). For example, the pattern [^abc] will match any single character except for the letters a, b, or c.
OR Operator (|): E.g., the regex four|4 accepts strings four or 4 . Character class (or Bracket List): []: Accept ANY ONE of the character within the square bracket, e.g., [aeiou] matches a , e , i , o or u .
To use the negation operator, you place the ^ metacharacter immediately after the opening square bracket. For example, [^abc] matches any character that is not a, b, or c. Here are a few examples to illustrate how the negation operator works: [^0-9] : Matches any character that is not a digit.
A regular expression (also called regex or regexp) is a way to describe a pattern. It is used to locate or validate specific strings or patterns of text in a sentence, document, or any other character input. Regular expressions use both basic and special characters.
We create a negative character set using the negative meta character, which is a carrot symbol or upward pointing arrow. Depending on your keyboard layout, it may be over the six key. Its going to negate a character set. What it means is that the character set, is not any one of several characters.
