all right hi everyone um as sriya mentioned the tradition here at cgsi is that theres no formal introduction to the speakers um the speakers introduce themselves so Im going to model that Im John November um Im a professor at the University of Chicago I study population genetics Im a long-term long-time cgsi attendee Ive spoken many times about the methods that my group works on in studying population structure thats one of the big questions that we work on spatial population genetics and given that Ive talked about myself several times I thought it would be fun to talk about a line of my research that Ive never talked about with this group and use it as the basis for a tutorial to introduce you to a lot of the questions that are on the minds of human geneticists and I think it connects to the broader topics around genomics and health that that cgsi is thinking about these years this year um its also something I do strategically as a computational biologist if we just work on
