To configure Failed Request Tracing Rules using the UI Launch IIS Manager (inetmgr). Select the Default Web Site. In the Actions pane, under Configure, select Failed Request Tracing. In the Edit Web Site Failed Request Tracing Settings dialog box, check the Enable checkbox. Click OK to save changes.
To create the outbound rule: Open IIS Manager. Select Default Web Site In the Feature View select URL Rewrite In the Actions pane on the right hand side click on Add Rules. In the Add Rules dialog select the Blank Rule under the Outbound rules category and click OK.
Checking if the URL Rewrite module is installed To see if the URL Rewrite module is installed, open IIS Manager and look in the IIS group - if the module is installed, an icon named URL Rewrite will be present.
Inbound rules look at the request URLs and change them. Outbound rules inspect the traffic sent out, look for URLs within it, and rewrite them as needed. This is great when the content may use an absolute URL that is not what the user should be receiving (especially handy in reverse proxy scenarios).
Creating a rewrite rule Go to IIS Manager. Select Default Web Site. In the Feature View click URL Rewrite. In the Actions pane on the right-hand side, click Add rules In the Add Rules dialog box, select Blank Rule and click OK.
Installing the URL Rewrite Module Open your Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and select any of your websites under Sites in the Connections panel. Download the URL Rewrite Module for IIS 7 (and later), and follow the prompts to the module.
The concept of URL rewriting is simple. When a client sends a request to the Web server for a particular URL, the URL rewriting module analyzes the requested URL and changes it to a different URL on the same server.
Download and the IIS URL Rewrite module, then launch IIS Manager. Select the website you want to apply redirection to, then double-click URL Rewrite. Click Add Rule(s) Select Blank rule in the Inbound rules section, then click the OK button. Give your redirect an easy-to-remember name.
