Hi! Today Im going to show you how to do a trace monotype. Now a trace monotype is a kind of monotype that can be created without a press. It can be created with just a palette and drawing tools and ink and paper and a monotype is different than other kinds of printmaking in that usually its just a one-off print, although thats also a monoprint. And a monotype is a type of print that usually theres a singular version of. There areoverlaps between monotype and monoprint, of course, but usually, monotype is the type of printmaking where theres not a repeatable surface of some kind. Usually, its a flat surface that is either painted on or covered with ink and then printed in some form. So basically, all prints involve some kind of a repeatable matrix, but in this instance with monotypes sometimes its just mostly the transfer from one surface the inked up pallet to the surface, and rather than press its the pressure of our drawing tools that transfers the ink in this instance.
