In terms of OpenGL an image is an array of pixel data in RAM. You can for instance load a smiley. tga in RAM using standard C functions, that would be an image. A texture is when the imagedata is loaded in video memory by OpenGL.
glteximage2d is the function that actually moves the texture data across to the gpu. you will need to create the texture object first using glGenTextures() and then bind it using glBindTexture(). you can then use this texture with a VBO.
A texture is an OpenGL Object that contains one or more images that all have the same image format. A texture can be used in two ways: it can be the source of a texture access from a Shader, or it can be used as a render target.
Maximum allowed Texture size is set to 4096, and maximum cubemap size to 2048.
The glTexImage2D function specifies a two-dimensional texture image. Texturing maps a portion of a specified texture image onto each graphical primitive for which texturing is enabled. Two-dimensional texturing is enabled and disabled using glEnable and glDisable with argument GLTEXTURE2D.
A texture is an OpenGL Object that contains one or more images that all have the same image format. A texture can be used in two ways: it can be the source of a texture access from a Shader, or it can be used as a render target.
glTexImage2D creates the storage for the texture, defining the size/format and removing all previous pixel data. glTexSubImage2D only modifies pixel data within the texture. It can be used to update all the texels, or simply a portion of them.
UV values should never be negative, unless youre trying to do some tricky texture mapping, or maybe something abstract. All images, regardless of size, have a 0-1 range, and your UVs should reflect that.
