Alpha fetoprotein normal range is below ten ng/ml. In the case of adults who arent pregnant, if the results show that there is a high level of AFP, then it indicates that you have liver disease. The AFP levels fluctuate throughout pregnancy. In pregnant women, a higher AFP level indicates Spina bifida in your fetus.
AFP levels normally rise and fall at set times during pregnancy, so an abnormal AFP may mean that your baby is due earlier or later than estimated. This is the most common reason for abnormal AFP levels. Youre pregnant with more than one baby.
Here is the normal range: For adults: less than 40 ng/mL. At 15 to 21 weeks gestation: 10 to 150 ng/mL.
Iron reduction by therapeutic phlebotomy can reduce serum AFP and GGT levels in chronic hepatitis C patients.
An AFP level between 0 ng/mL to 40 ng/mL is normal for adults. An extremely high level of AFP in your bloodgreater than 400 ng/mLcould be a sign of liver tumors. High levels of AFP may mean other cancers, including Hodgkin disease, lymphoma, and renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
Higher than usual AFP levels can point to neural tube defects. Lower than usual AFP levels may indicate that the fetus has a genetic disorder such as Down syndrome. Its important to understand that irregular AFP levels dont automatically mean the fetus has a genetic condition or a neural tube defect.
AFP tumor marker normal range AFP is measured in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL), with normal levels less than 20 ng/mL. Levels above 400 ng/mL may indicate a liver tumor or other cancer. Elevated levels of AFP may indicate cancer of the liver, ovaries or testicles, but that isnt always the case.
What does it mean if my AFP PLUS test result is screen positive? A positive AFP PLUS test means that you are in a higher likelihood group for having a baby with a neural tube defect or a chromosome abnormality. However, it does not prove by itself that there is anything wrong with the pregnancy.
