Mix equal parts white vinegar and olive oil in a bowl and saturate the wood stain using a paper towel. Let the solution sit for an hour to release trapped moisture in the pores. Wipe off the residue with a soft cloth and buff the wood until the stained area blends in with the natural wood grain.
Combine Vinegar and Olive Oil for a DIY Wood-Stain Remover In a small bowl, mix equal parts vinegar and olive oil. Apply the mixture to the water stain using a cloth. Wipe in the direction of the wood grain until the stain is gone. The vinegar will help remove the stain while the olive oil acts as a furniture polish.
Bleach and Water Another way to brighten up and clean up logs or deck prior to finishing is to use a mixture of half house hold bleach and half water. Application: This can be sprayed on with a hand held pump sprayer and worked in with a brush on tough spots.
In most cases, we recommend removing the old stain or coating by blasting the logs or wood with crushed glass. This media is as fine as table salt, silica free and 100% environmentally friendly. Once the old coatings are removed and the logs are brought down to bare wood, a new stain can be applied.
In most cases, media blasting is the best way to remove stain quickly and easily. Over the years, log refinishing and refurbishing companies have experimented with a variety of media: sand, corncob grit, glass pellets, walnut shells even baking soda and dry ice.
Will vinegar remove wood stains? Vinegar is a natural, safe cleaner that you can use to remove stains on your wood furniture or hardwood floors.
