The 127 film is a paper-backed roll film, 4.6cm wide, originally designed to store eight pictures in 46.5cm format. It was created by Kodak for their Vest Pocket model hence 127 was often called Vest Pocket film.
The 127 film is a paper-backed roll film, 4.6cm wide, originally designed to store eight pictures in 46.5cm format.
Beginning in the 1890s and into the 20th century Kodak developed several film formats, like 116 and later 616 that were larger than 120. There was also 127 film, which was smaller than the 120 size about 46mm wide. And then theres 35mm film.
Once you have the back off, or outer case of the camera as is the case with the Brownie, you can see on the right as you look at it that a 35mm film fits neatly (albeit slightly loosely) into the gap where a 127 spool should go.
These are from film size 620 / 120 --- both are the same film except the 120 sported a more robust film spool. As a rule of thumb, the 120 size fit the more expensive cameras and the 620 size the amateur cameras. These negatives are format 2 1/4 x 2 1/4.
Introduced in 1963, the 126 film cartridge film is 35mm wide, and the image size is 28 x 28mm. The viewable area of 126 negative film is about 26.5mm x 26.5mm. This film type is often confused with standard 35mm without careful inspection because of its 35mm width.
127 film is 46 mm wide, placing it between 35 mm and medium format films in size. It was created by Kodak for their Vest Pocket camera (a folding camera that would fit comfortably in the vest pocket of the user) and as such was often referred to as Vest Pocket film.
The film is 24 mm wide (just a little under one inch) and the frame is 16.7 x 30.2 mm (approx. 5/8 x 1 1/4 inch).
