Alice has several disturbing hallucinations. Often, shes depicted as suffocating - walls are closing in on her, or shes pulling plastic wrap taut over her mouth. The images arent just meant to unsettle viewers, however, they indicate that shes trapped in the simulation - not just in her homemaker role.
A: Kinda. What sets this story apart is that it was a shared dream. In a typical dream narrative were entirely in the protagonists head, but in Dont Worry Darling were experiencing Alices horror at being trapped inside Franks dream, his idealized utopia.
Without witnessing the apparent plane crash, Alice might never have made such a breakthrough. This would mean that she would not have been able to become free of the Victory Project had she not seen the plane. For this reason, the plane in Dont Worry Darling can be seen as a symbol of Alices escape.
The twist ending of Dont Worry Darling is that Victory is actually a simulation. Frank (Chris Pine) came up with this idea because he wanted men to be able to control women and live as if its still the 1950s. Alice is understandably horrified to learn about what Victory really is.
Rotten score. Despite great chemistry between Pine and Pugh and amazing production costume design, the obvious and nonsensical plot and Harry Styles unconvincing performance ultimately sinks the film.
One theory suggests that if the eggs are taken as a symbol of fertility, their hollowness foreshadows how none of the children in Victory are real but simply programmed simulations, but this feels like a too-nuanced explanation for a film that far too often resorts to bluntness.
Ideally I dont really want to be going down the Dont Worry Darling conversation because this whole release for The Wonder has been so positive, Florence explained to Vanity Fair in an interview for its annual Hollywood issue published Feb. 15.
