There are four commonly used grafts for ACL reconstruction. Patellar tendon autograft. The surgeon removes the middle third of your patellar tendon and pieces of bone (bone plugs) from your shin and kneecap. Hamstring tendon autograft. Quadriceps tendon autograft. Allograft.
The patellar tendon graft (PTG) has always been the gold standard for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Yet, most orthopedic surgeons prefer hamstring grafts for younger athletes and cadaver grafts for older patients.
Usually, a good compromise for the femoral nerve block for the total knee replacement in our practice is actually femoral triangle block, because the femoral triangle block will block most of the branches that we are interested in for total knee replacement pain management, but at the same time it spares the bulk of
The strongest option is the BTB graft. The graft incorporates more solid into the bone due to the bone plugs on either end of the tendon. However, BTB grafts have been known to have the slowest recovery time when it comes to meeting rehab milestones and returning to sport.
Without surgery, your ACL will remain torn. The knee might healthe swelling and pain will stop. But a torn anterior cruciate ligament does not reattach or heal itself.
Its important to remember that, during the first 4-12 weeks after your surgery, your ACL graft is at its weakest point in the recovery process, since the graft requires time to grow and adapt to the bone and tendon.
Discontinuity is defined as a focal gap or interruption of the ACL fibers. Figure 3. In this T2-weighted fat-suppressed sagittal image, abnormal signal intensity is observed as increased signal intensity within the anterior cruciate ligament (arrow).
Femoral nerve block (FNB) is considered the preferred analgesia after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), but leads to weakness in the quadriceps muscles.
