if you want to know how to configure standard access lists and the time it takes to eat a Snickers bar youamp;#39;ve come to the right place access lists in general are just a list of statements saying what is permitted and what is denied so imagine that the access list is given to this guard who is guarding the inbound interface that connects your router to the internet that guard is going to stand there and look at the list and look at the first line on there and say okay permit 10.15.1 so a packet comes in heamp;#39;s going to say is that you packetamp;#39;s going to say no Iamp;#39;m sorry itamp;#39;s not he goes okay well how about number two deny 192 is is is this one you the pack no no Iamp;#39;m actually sorry Iamp;#39;m not itamp;#39;s going to say well permit this whole network does your address start with 17230 packet says no Iamp;#39;m sorry you know it keeps going through that list on and on and on and on and if itamp;#39;s unlucky enough to docHub the very bottom

The last statement of an ACL is always an implicit deny. This statement is automatically inserted at the end of each ACL even though it is not physically present. The implicit deny blocks all traffic. Because of this implicit deny, an ACL that does not have at least one permit statement will block all traffic.
Explicit deny is a deliberate decision to deny access, unlike implicit deny. It adds an extra layer of control and granularity to security policies. Explicit deny goes beyond default-deny rule. Explicit deny targets specific actions or users even if they might technically be allowed through broader permit rules.
An access control list (ACL) is made up of rules that either allow access to a computer environment or deny it. In a way, an access control list is like a guest list at an exclusive club. Only those on the list are allowed in the doors.
By default, there is an implicit deny all clause at the end of every ACL. Anything that is not explicitly permitted is denied. Note: The ACL filters IP packets from NetB to NetA, except packets sourced from Host B.
Each implicit ACL allows or denies a specific type of network traffic referred to as a service. Only three services are permitted by default - DHCP, DNS, and ICMP. All other services are denied .
When deny is used in the ACL rule, the system discards packets when traffic matches the ACL rule, and the action in the traffic behavior does not take effect (except traffic statistics collection and traffic mirroring actions).
To remove the effect of the implicit deny in an ACL, the entry permit ip any any should be added, which allows all traffic from any source to any destination.
Implicit Deny:Where an ACL is in use, it denies any packets that do not have a match with the ACEs explicitly configured in the list. The Implicit Deny does not appear in ACL configuration listings, but always functions when the switch uses an ACL to filter packets.
