The paper negative process consists of using a negative printed on paper (either photographically or digitally) to create the final print of a photograph, as opposed to using a modern negative on a film base of cellulose acetate.
The term contact print is when the film negative is placed directly on the photographic paper for making a direct contact exposure. Contact meaning actual contact with paper for making the print and not using an enlarger. Contact printing results in same size, but there arent alternative methods printing by hand.
Invented: The first viable paper negative process was developed by William Henry Fox Talbot in the late 1830s. In 1847 Louis-Dsir Blanquart-Evrard developed a simplified version of Talbots formula and published it in France.
1 Process the paper negativeas normal through into the water bath. 2 Put a piece of unexposed paper in the water bath. 3 Make a sandwichwith the negative face down on top of the emulsion side of the unexposed paper. Put both down flat on a piece of heavy glass or plexi, with the negative on top, face down.
A digital negative is a negative image printed onto a transparency film using an inkjet printer. Once the original image is in your computer it can be edited to taste and prepared for lots of really interesting alternative photographic printing processes.

To make a contact print, you simply need a darkroom and a light source, such as an enlarger, and the chemicals to develop the paper. Place the negative (film) emulsion side down directly on top of the light-sensitive paper. It would be advised to also use a clean piece of glass to ensure the film and paper lay flat.
