If you have a lot of old negatives laying around somewhere in your cupboard or your old photo albums just like so. What a better way to kill time rather than trying to develop them in Photoshop? Doesnt that sound like a good experiment? It actually is. And the great news is, its possible. However, the quality of the image that comes out of these negatives depends upon three things. Number one - lighting. How you light these negatives when you take a picture of them. Number two, of course - the lens. How much can the lens magnify this film? So if you have a macro lens, that would be the best. And number three, obviously - the quality of the film. Now here comes the important question - how do we take a picture of this film? Simple, make the screen of your phone white or run a widescreen video and then keep the film in front of it and simply take a picture. Make sure not any other light in the room is falling on this film and then take a picture. It would be best if its a dark room.

Heres how to photograph film negatives and slides to digitize them: Place your negative or slide on a light box, and turn the light box on. Carefully frame the slide or negative with your camera, and take a picture. You can do this manually with a steady hand or use a tripod for more consistent results.
How to store: Slides and negatives should be stored in a cool temperature environment that is stable, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Main floor closets and bookshelves are usually our first recommendation. We recommend storing film formats in a plastic preserver like Print File.
Organizing and Labeling Your Film Negatives I like to organize my scans by placing them in the appropriate binder from newest to oldest. In between the film sleeves, I put a paper that classifies which year it is. You could also use tab dividers as well. This way everything is super organized and easy to find later on!
Negatives can be digitally converted But what some might not know is that those little brown negative film strips can be digitized as well. And in a lot of ways, keeping those negatives is your best bet to preserving your memories as they can be used to create new physical prints or digitized copies.
Negatives are best stored in archival plastic negative sheets collected in a ring binder or archival quality envelopes. The ring binders or envelopes should be stored in a cool location, preferably below 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius).
Storage. If you decide to organize your negatives, the most effective system for storing negatives is to place them in PVC-free plastic negative sleeves and store them chronologically in a 3 ring binder. This protects them from dirt, scratches, and the oil on your fingers.
When that film is processed, it reverses the tones of the subject. In simple terms, the image is dark where the subject was light, and light where the subject was dark. That resulting image is known as a negative.
Many photographic processes create negative images: the chemicals involved react when exposed to light, so that during development they produce deposits of microscopic dark silver particles or colored dyes in proportion to the amount of exposure.
