Hi YUSA members. Im Sonny Day and Im going to talk to you about taking an unpaid leave of absence sometimes known as an article 20 leave so what is this? Well, basically you take time off from work you dont get paid but you get to come back after youre finished your leave so normally an unpaid leave of absence can be for up to 12 months and youre in that case your department head has to approve it. If its more than 12 months of unpaid leave that you want to take then the assistant vice president of Human Resources would have to approve that. Now if its up to 12 months, you get rights back to your job, right? So after you return you know they hold your position for you and you just go right back to the job that youre in before if its more than 12 months then when you come back you would get basically three months of internal posting rights where you could apply for another job but there there have been circumstances where people have taken longer than twelve months leave
