Negative numbers are any number less than zero. Imagining something less than zero can be difficult. Suppose you have a bowl of oranges and someone takes them away until you have zero left. When thereamp;#39;s nothing itamp;#39;s hard to imagine being able to take away more; however, there are instances in real life where we use numbers less than zero. For example, did you know the average temperatures at the top of Mount Everest range from negative 19 degrees Celsius to negative 36 degrees Celsius? Wow, thatamp;#39;s cold. Negative numbers also appear in finances to show debt. Suppose you have $50 in your bank account, but then you accidentally spend $60. Your account balance is now negative $10. This means you owe the bank $10. To understand this more, letamp;#39;s look at a number line. For every positive number, there is a negative number. Negative numbers can also be thought of as the opposite of a positive number, so the opposite of 5 is negative 5. You might also notice that

In assembly language, to check if a number is negative or not, we can use the signed arithmetic instructions. The most common way to do this is by using the CMP instruction to compare the number with zero.
The negative version of a positive number is referred to as its negation. For example, 3 is the negation of the positive number 3. The sum of a number and its negation is equal to zero: 3 + (3) = 0.
In assembly, comments are usually denoted by a semicolon ; , although GAS uses # for single line comments and /* */ for block comments possibly spanning multiple lines.
In assembly language, you can use the NEG instruction to perform bitwise negation on a register or a memory operand. The NEG instruction subtracts the operand from zero and stores the result in the same operand. The NEG instruction affects the carry, overflow, sign, zero, and parity flags ing to the result.
Its first (leftmost) bit is 1, which means that this represents a number that is negative. Thats just the way that things are in twos complement: a leading 1 means the number is negative, a leading 0 means the number is 0 or positive. To see what this number is a negative of, we reverse the sign of this number.
Multiplying by -1 Using the multiplying by -1 method is an efficient way to convert numbers to negative numbers.
JavaScript Demo: Expressions - Unary negation operator const x = 4; const y = -x; console. log(y); const a = 4; const b = -a; console. log(b);
