Each incorrect answer carries a negative marking of o. 33%, which means for every wrong answer 0.66 marks will be deducted. Therefore, in the above example if 25 questions were answered incorrectly then the negative marking for 25 incorrect answers would be 25 x 0.66 = 16.5.
Negative marking occurs when a candidate marks the wrong answer in the question and 0.25 marks are deducted from the total score of the candidate for every wrong answer. So, for every 4 wrong answers, the candidate loses 1 mark.
Only two types of questions can incur negative markings in the PTE. The two questions on which an incorrect answer can suffer negative marking are as follows: Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answers (Listening and Reading), and. Highlight Incorrect Words (Listening)
Negative marking occurs when a candidate marks the wrong answer in the question and 0.25 marks are deducted from the total score of the candidate for every wrong answer. So, for every 4 wrong answers, the candidate loses 1 mark.
The ⅓ negative marking in UPSC means that for every wrong answer, ⅓ of the total marks of that question will be deducted. For example, if the question carries 2 marks, then ⅓ of it, that is 0.66 marks, will be deducted if the answer is wrong.
Positive marking is used is when marks are awarded for correct answers, but no marks are reduced for wrong answers, while negative marking does both - awards marks for correct answers and reduces marks for wrong given answers.
So in 1/4 negative marking scheme your 1/4 marks will be cut for each wrong answer here 1/4 marks cut means 25% marks of that question. So if your question is of 1 mark then 1/4 marks cut means 0.25 marks will be cut from 1 mark it is called 1/4 negative marking or 1/4 marks cut from 1 mark of question.
And like in every other competitive examination in India, there shall be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer. This means every 4 wrong answers cost you 1 (one) mark. Also, you get a 0 for every question that goes unmarked or unanswered.
