Negative marking occurs when a candidate marks the wrong answer in the question and 0.25 marks are deducted from the total score of the candidate for every wrong answer. So, for every 4 wrong answers, the candidate loses 1 mark.

Positive marking is used is when marks are awarded for correct answers, but no marks are reduced for wrong answers, while negative marking does both - awards marks for correct answers and reduces marks for wrong given answers.
Correct answers 75 x 2 = 150 marks. Each incorrect answer carries a negative marking of o. 33%, which means for every wrong answer 0.66 marks will be deducted. Therefore, in the above example if 25 questions were answered incorrectly then the negative marking for 25 incorrect answers would be 25 x 0.66 = 16.5.
Positive marking is used is when marks are awarded for correct answers, but no marks are reduced for wrong answers, while negative marking does both - awards marks for correct answers and reduces marks for wrong given answers.
The ⅓ rd of every wrong answer is taken as a negative mark subtracted from the grand total. This 1/3rd means one-third of the assigned marks to a specific question. These 1/3rd marks are deducted for each wrong answer.
Wrong answers do not cause you to lose points, not with standard setting nor when no negative marking is applied. Therefore, it is in your best interest to answer all questions, even the ones you are unsure of. A correct answer yields a positive score. A wrong answer or unanswered question both result in zero points.
