LED lights have a correct wavelength when exposing emulsion between 350nm and 450nm.
As previously explained, the ideal light for screen exposures is one that is rich in ultra-violet (UV) light. Fluorescent and halogen lights are low in UV light. But they are low cost to purchase and readily available. This is why most low cost exposure units have them as a light source.
Light Safe Yellow Bulbs are great in the dark room where you coat your screens with emulsion. They allow you to see what youre doing without any risk of prematurely exposing your screens. Red bulbs can also be used, but we prefer the yellow bulbs because you can usually see a bit better with them.
Diazo emulsion works great with units that do not have timers and it can be washed out under indirect UV light (meaning fluorescent tubes on the ceiling) with careful attention.
The UV light source can simply be a standard UV neon light. If using a UV light source, a classic diazo emulsion, suitable for all ink types, can be used. The white light source can simply be a white light neon tube or, alternatively, a standard 250-watt (or higher) halogen spotlight will suffice.
If you want to soften the light a little, but not too much, you can clip a piece of diffusion paper over the front of it. Barn doors are great lighting accessories, because not only do they help you control spill light, they also give you something to clip your diffusion paper and color gels to.
