Safelight illumination will fog color films and papers; color print and transparency materials; most panchromatic black- and-white films (films that are sensitive to blue, green, and red light); and high-speed infrared films. You must handle these materials in total darkness.
A safelight is a light source suitable for use in a photographic darkroom. It provides illumination only from parts of the visible spectrum to which the photographic material in use is nearly, or completely insensitive.
Directly touching the film can damage it quickly, so try to hold them at the perforated edges. For best results, you should only handle the negatives while wearing cotton gloves.
Photographic film, once properly developed, becomes a negative and can be exposed to light at will without further exposure or change. Intense light for a long time of course can bleach or fade negatives, but making prints from it requires reasonable exposure to light.
Your photo negatives are the basis for all your photo printsin good condition, you can reprint photos right off the same negatives you used all those years ago. For archival purposes, however, you should consider digitizing the negatives to keep the memories safe while the physical formats degrade over time.
Since film is sensitive to light, we need to protect it from any accidental exposure to light until we are ready to take a picture. We are ready to take a picture when the film is safely loaded into our camera.
At first, it will create light leaks or interesting effects, but after a while, the negative will be completely black. The time depends on the light and the ISO of the film.
To make the positive images, a glass easel was used by placing the negative emulsion side down to the new photographic paper that is emulsion side up. This will invert the image as well as the hues to create a positive image.
