The first way to reduce TIFF file size is with color reduction. TIFF images support various color modes and bit depths. Choosing the appropriate color mode and bit depth can make a big difference in file size. TIFF images can be color, indexed color, grayscale, or monochrome (black and white).
Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.
Images with less detail and fewer tones compress more. For 8-bit TIFF files, both LZW and ZIP offer similar compression. For 16-bit TIFF files, ZIP is recommended as LZW can increase file size.
LZW compression is a method to reduce the size of Tag Image File Format (TIFF) or Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) files. It is a table-based lookup algorithm to remove duplicate data and compress an original file into a smaller file. LZW compression is also suitable for compressing text and PDF files.
CCITT (Huffman encoding) Used particularly for encoding bitonal (or bi-level) images. Group 3 and Group 4 are particularly known for its use with fax transmission of images. Using this compression type will help keep smaller file sizes. LZW A lossless compression type that supports multiple bit depths.
Compression. Both PNG and TIFF files benefit from lossless compression, meaning that no matter how often you save, open, or resize them, theyll maintain their quality. However, TIFF files offer users a choice between lossy and lossless compression, which can help reduce the file size if this is a priority.
LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch) and ZIP (Deflate) compression are two commonly used lossless compression methods for color TIFF images. A lossless compression method compresses the image data while still keeping all the original image data intact with no loss of quality.
Sometimes, renaming an image file can fix corruption issues. To rename a TIF file, right-click on it, select Rename, and give the new file name. If you are unable to view properly in Photoshop, try to open TIFF files in another program such as MS Paint or Windows Photo Viewer, and vice versa.
