okay so why is it wrong for a logarithm or even an exponential function to have a negative base very simple if you want to explore you can track them letamp;#39;s keep it central they need to have a base all right X could be letamp;#39;s keep it simple 0 1 2 3 4 and when X is 1 keep going theyamp;#39;re gonna buy if X is at 2 5 1 negative 5 positive 25 your basic one why are you being so the idea is this from one at a certain point in time that gets to the negative I guess range itamp;#39;s at some point it has to flip over to go to the positive range and if you really want to explore we can try 0.5 here 1.5 here 225 here to see what the ascended to need youth negative Mountain Power Suit work but we kind of need you negative 5/2 power 5 mark can we do negative I the power 2.5 just have an idea of what numbers are actually in between okay itamp;#39;s the power of the x-values in other words you need our face of either exponents or logarithms if youamp;#39;re trying to cre

No, you cant take the log of a negative number. As discussed earlier, the log function logₐ(b) = n is the inverse of the exponent function aⁿ = b, where the base a 0. Since the base a raised to any exponent n is positive, the number b must be positive. The logarithm of a negative number b is undefined.
So overall, the base of a logarithm must be positive - and hence the argument of the log must also be positive.
As others have stated, you cannot take the log when negative values are present. But you can take logs of modified data. An alternative is the inverse sinh transformation. This is like log(x) for large positive x and -log(-x) for large negative x, and approximately y = x for small x.
Correct answer: In order to eliminate the log based ten, we will need to raise both sides as the exponents using the base of ten. The ten and log based ten will cancel, leaving just the power on the left side. Change the negative exponent into a fraction on the right side.
The logarithm function is defined only for positive real numbers. By definition, a logarithm is the power to which a number must be raised to get some other number. Since a negative number cannot be expressed as a power of a positive base, the logarithm of a negative number is undefined.
How to calculate a negative log? Calculating the negative log is as simple as performing the normal log function on 1/x instead of x. The base stays the same. For example, the negative log of -log(10) = log(1/10) = 1.
A common technique for handling negative values is to add a constant value to the data prior to applying the log transform. The transformation is therefore log(Y+a) where a is the constant. Some people like to choose a so that min(Y+a) is a very small positive number (like 0.001). Others choose a so that min(Y+a) = 1.
Logs can also be figured for numbers less than one. When a number is a fraction (less than one), then the log is always negative.
