CIN 2 is sometimes called high-grade or moderate dysplasia. Also called cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia 2.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance is the most common abnormal finding in a Pap test. It may be a sign of infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) or other types of infection, such as a yeast infection.
CIN The outer surface of the cervix is composed of cells called squamous cells. A precancerous lesion affecting these cells is called CIN. These changes are categorized as being mild (CIN 1) or moderate to severe (CIN 2 or 3).
CIN 1 is used for mild (low-grade) changes in the cells that usually go away on their own without treatment. CIN 2 is used for moderate changes. CIN 3 is used for more severe (high-grade) changes.
CIN 1 is sometimes called low-grade or mild dysplasia. Also called cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia 1.
The results of several studies suggest that CIN1 is mainly caused by low-risk HPV infection [35]. However, there is also evidence that high-risk HPV is strongly associated with CIN1 [6, 7].
Abnormal Pap test results include. Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US): This is the most common abnormal Pap test finding. It means that some cells dont look completely normal, but its not clear if the changes are caused by HPV infection.
Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is classified on a scale from one to three. CIN 1: Refers to abnormal cells affecting about one-third of the thickness of the epithelium. CIN 2: Refers to abnormal cells affecting about one-third to two-thirds of the epithelium.
