If Word or LibreOffice is showing the field codes, rather than the formatted text, you can hide the field codes by pressing Alt/Option-F9 (or Option-Fn-F9 on a Mac) in Word or Ctrl-F9 in LibreOffice. For a single citation in Word, you can right-click on the field code and choose Toggle Field Codes.
press Alt+F9 to turn off display of field codes.
Ctrl+Shift+F9 - Unlink fields - converts all qualifying fields in the selection into hard text; once this action is done, the field cant be updated any more.
To remove hidden links, select all text (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A), then press Ctrl+Shift+F9 or Cmd+6 to unlink all fields.
By default, Word is set up to show the actual page numbers. If youre seeing the field codes instead, this means that the setting that controls this in Word accidentally got changed. (Side note: This will also cause {Hyperlink} to show in your references instead of the clickable URL hyperlink.)
Press Ctrl+Shift+F9. This converts the field to actual text.
If you use Shift+F9, pressing F9 will return you to the result and hide the code. Alt+F9 is a toggle of a setting in Word and applies until you toggle back. (You will continue to see field codes rather than the results until the setting is toggled back to display of results.)
