so what theyamp;#39;re asking us to do in this problem is theyamp;#39;re asking us to evaluate the expression all right so remember weamp;#39;re trying to val weamp;#39;re trying to find the value so we want to say log base 27 of the one-third equals what so we can give that a value of letamp;#39;s say x all right now remember what we can do is we can rewrite this and say you know what exactly does a logarithm you know state what where did we even get with the logarithms and remember the reason why we came up with logarithms is we had b raised to the y equals x right which state that log base of iamp;#39;m sorry log base b of x equals y this is our formal kind of definition of how we have logarithmic and exponential form so what this is pretty much saying is 27 raised to what power equals one-third all right so letamp;#39;s go and take a look at and see first of all how weamp;#39;re going to get to this so first of all 27 raised to a power if my if my power right is greater tha

By definition, a logarithm is the power to which a number must be raised to get some other number. Since a negative number cannot be expressed as a power of a positive base, the logarithm of a negative number is undefined.
A logarithmic equation can have a negative solution. Its the input value (x-value or argument) for a logarithm function that cant be negative, but the output (y-value or solution) can be negative.
So overall, the base of a logarithm must be positive - and hence the argument of the log must also be positive.
The argument of the logarithm must be positive because the base of the exponent is positive. i.e. a=positive numberx=positive number a = positive number x = positive number .
The logarithm of any positive number to any base is negative when that number is below 1. log10(0.01) is -2, for example.
The base of any logarithm must be greater than 0 and not = 1. If the value is not greater than 0, the logarithmic graph would not be continues and it would have values that are not defined in the real number system. And, the base cant be 1 because y=1^x is not an exponential equation.
Correct answer: In order to eliminate the log based ten, we will need to raise both sides as the exponents using the base of ten. The ten and log based ten will cancel, leaving just the power on the left side. Change the negative exponent into a fraction on the right side.
A common technique for handling negative values is to add a constant value to the data prior to applying the log transform. The transformation is therefore log(Y+a) where a is the constant. Some people like to choose a so that min(Y+a) is a very small positive number (like 0.001). Others choose a so that min(Y+a) = 1.
