So imagine that you have a school report that youamp;#39;re working on, or maybe youamp;#39;re turning in a project for work, and youamp;#39;ve got lots of pages and lots of sections in there. Well, a table of contents can make it easier to get back to the content that people want to refer back to. So how do you do that? Itamp;#39;s actually easier than you think. Dotx files can be opened and modified, but only via File--Open. Double clicking the file should create a document1, document2, etc, forcing a save as. So, if these are actual dotx files, instruct your users to open them via double click, and not file--open.
Files with DOTX extension are template files created by Microsoft Word to have pre-formatted settings for generation of further DOCX files. A template file is created in order to have specific user settings that should be applied to subsequent flies created from these.
Your file can be saved as a . dotx file within the Templates folder within your Microsoft Office profile.
dotx is in a hidden system folder. If your Start menu has a search function searching for %APPDATA% will lead you toward the folder.
Next to File Format, click Microsoft Word template (.dotx), or, if your template contains macros, click Microsoft Word Macro-Enabled template. Click Save. Unless you select a different location, the template is saved in /Users/username/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates.
dotx is located in %APPDATA% + \Microsoft\Document Building Blocks*language**version* and is moved in an out this folder on language changes. In DocumentNew and DocumentOpen of MyMainTemplate.
docx file is a Word document, while a . dotx file is a Word template. Both can be opened and edited in Microsoft Word, but a . dotx file opens as a new document to preserve the original template.
Go to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. Open the Normal template (Normal. dotm). Make any changes that you want to the fonts, margins, spacing, and other settings.
