Why is this special character displayed? Answer: The exported data contains special characters (such as , , , etc.). These special characters are rendered incorrectly in Excel because Microsoft Excel is unable to properly display UTF-8 compliant CSV files when they contain non-English characters.
Typically, CSV standards require a quote character within a field to be escaped by preceding it with another quote character.
In Excel, navigate to Data Import External Data Import Data/Import From Text and choose 65001 Unicode (UTF-8). Save your settings then re-open your file to confirm that special characters are displayed correctly.
Use double quotes for encapsulating values Some of your values may contain comma characters. Surround these values with double quotes ( ) to avoid clashes with the use of commas for separators.
CSV character escaper: backslash \ The backslash is used to escape special characters in a CSV file. Example for any special character: if the CSV file is stored as Google Sheets: company\Subsidiary\ if the CSV file is stored as CSV: company\\Subsidiary\\
Change your settings within Excel to resolve this issue. In Excel, navigate to Data Import External Data Import Data/Import From Text and choose 65001 Unicode (UTF-8). Save your settings then re-open your file to confirm that special characters are displayed correctly.
Since the line break \n is almost always used as a row terminator, it has a special meaning in CSV files and can therefore confuse a parser when it occurs within a text column.
For csv, in general you need to avoid the character which you are using as delimiter, and the single row should not be split into multiple rows, meaning there should not be any enter character in between the data of a single record.
