The negation operator (-) in C is a unary operator that reverses the sign of its operand. The operator can be used with variables of numeric data types such as int, float, double, etc.
The logical negation operator ( ! ) reverses the meaning of its operand. The operand must be of arithmetic or pointer type (or an expression that evaluates to arithmetic or pointer type). The operand is implicitly converted to type bool .
The ~ (bitwise negation) operator yields the bitwise complement of the operand. In the binary representation of the result, every bit has the opposite value of the same bit in the binary representation of the operand.
In a 1+7-bit sign-and-magnitude representation for integers, negative zero is represented by the bit string 10000000. In an 8-bit ones complement representation, negative zero is represented by the bit string 11111111. In all these three encodings, positive or unsigned zero is represented by 00000000.
This is the basis of twos complement. In order to find the negative binary representation a number n, you will need to flip all of the bits (in C, you can use the negation operator ~ to do this) and add 1. For example, lets look at a 4-bit representation of a few numbers.

The conversion of a binary digit, or bit, into its opposite. For example, a 1 converted into a 0 is considered a negation. A complete negation of an 8-bit binary number may look similar to the example below. Binary Number: 01100101. Negation: 10011010.
Negative Numbers The simplest is to simply use the leftmost digit of the number as a special value to represent the sign of the number: 0 = positive, 1 = negative. For example, a value of positive 12 (decimal) would be written as 01100 in binary, but negative 12 (decimal) would be written as 11100.
