- Behold, the humble sticky dot. Theyamp;#39;re just shy in popularity perhaps to the ubiquitous sticky note when it comes to your classic UX workshop toolkit, and youamp;#39;re really unlikely to make it through a UX workshop without sticking one of these things on a whiteboard at some point. Thatamp;#39;s because Dot Voting is a classic effective prioritization technique. Itamp;#39;s where we give each participant a set number of dots, and then we let them use those dots to vote on items that are most important or valuable to them. The traditional approach is to then step back, tally up the dots, and docHub a group decision about where to focus. Classic and effective. But what if I told you that with a little bit of additional creativity, we could push the humble sticky dot beyond this traditional approach and upgrade it to be more than just a big red point? One way to modify Dot Voting is just forget the math, donamp;#39;t count them. In most situations, itamp;#39;s honestly le

If you want to match a literal period (.), or other special character in your regular expression, escape it with a backslash (\) character.
1 Answer. The main problem with dots is that . is the regex character for matches anything. You need to escape it with a backslash.
Regular expressions and filenames A dot (.) specifies an actual dot in the filename. An asterisk (*) is the same as (matches 0 or more characters). A question mark (?) is the same as a regular expression dot (.); that is, a question mark matches exactly one character.
The dot matches a single character, without caring what that character is. The only exception are line break characters. In all regex flavors discussed in this tutorial, the dot does not match line breaks by default.
A . in regex is a metacharacter, it is used to match any character. To match a literal dot in a raw Python string ( r or r ), you need to escape it, so r\. In your regex you need to escape the dot \. or use it inside a character class [.] , as it is a meta-character in regex, which matches any character.
In regular expressions, the period ( . , also called dot) is the wildcard pattern which matches any single character. Combined with the asterisk operator . * it will match any number of any characters. In this case, the asterisk is also known as the Kleene star.
