An orange dot next to the Control Center icon in the menu bar indicates the microphone on your Mac is in use; a green dot indicates a camera is in use; a purple dot indicates the system audio is being recorded; and an arrow indicates your location is in use.
Initially, its a system indicator. Its official name is the Spinning Wait Cursor; not so official the Spinning Beach Ball of Death or SBBOD. Other names are rainbow wheel or circle of death. The ball signifies that your Mac cannot handle all the tasks given to it at this moment.
On your Mac, use Notifications settings to specify when you dont want to be disturbed by notifications, and to control how notifications are shown in Notification Center. To change these settings, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Notifications in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Keep in mind that if you click the Close button in the top-left corner of an apps window, the window closes, but the app remains open (a small dot below the apps icon in the Dock indicates that the apps open).
After youve rebooted in Recovery Mode and entered the system-override suppress-sw-camera-indication-on-external-displays=on command in the Terminal, the new option available in System Settings under Privacy Security for the microphone / camera will allow you to turn the privacy dot on and off for external displays
Step 1 How to Fix Staingate on Apple MacBook Displays. Put on latex gloves. Wipe the screen with the damp vinegar/Listerine cloth in a circular motion. You may have to wipe the screen a second time as some stains can be stubborn. Dampen the first microfiber cloth with water again.
Stuck pixels: Stuck pixels can appear as black or colored dots on your screen and are usually caused by a malfunction in the screens pixel grid. Dead pixels: Dead pixels are similar to stuck pixels but are permanently off, appearing as black spots on your screen.
Tip. You can get rid of that running program indicator dot, if you like. Open System PreferencesDock and turn off Show indicators for open applications. If you understand that much, then the Keep in Dock command makes a lot of sense.
