Hi, this is Gary with MacMost.com. Today let me show you ten things that you may not know that you can do in Mac Pages. MacMost is brought to you thanks to a great group of more than 800 supporters. Go to MacMost.com/patreon. There you can read more about the Patreon Campaign. Join us and get exclusive content and course discounts. Pages is the word processor that most Mac users use. However not everybody knows all the different things that it can do. Let me start off with a simple one. You can get the word count of your document by simply going to View, then Show Word Count or Shift Command W. This brings up the word count at the bottom of the screen. It tells you the word count of the entire document. But if you select some text it will tell you the word count of just that selection. If you click here you can see the character count with or without spaces, words, paragraphs, or pages. You can switch to one of those to be the default. Now heres something

As a design principle, negative space is essential because it gives the elements in your composition room to breathe. Without white space, pages look cluttered and are hard to navigate. Be sure to leave some space around elements on your pages, especially the most important ones.
Gestalt principles, or reducing unnecessary clutter And understanding these helps you eliminate unnecessary elements. If your audience is already grouping elements together in their head, expressing that visually isnt doing anything.
The fundamental principles of design are: Emphasis, Balance and Alignment, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, Movement and White Space. Design differs from art in that it has to have a purpose. Visually, this functionality is interpreted by making sure an image has a center of attention, a point of focus.
The four graphic design principles are contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity (C.R.A.P.). Contrast helps to highlight and focus attention. Contrast may be achieved using color, shades of gray, size, visual weight, and so forth.
There are twelve basic principles of design: contrast, balance, emphasis, proportion, hierarchy, repetition, rhythm, pattern, white space, movement, variety, and unity. These visual and graphic design principles work together to create appealing and functional designs that make sense to users.
Basically, negative space or white space, as its often called is the area of the layout that is left empty. It may be not only around the objects you place in the layout but also between and inside them. Negative space is a kind of breathing room for all the objects on the page or screen.
Negative space is the background of a design or work of art, and positive space is the foreground (the front). Negative space gives design definition, and its the most neglected in art and design.
Emphasis, balance and alignment, contrast, repetition, proportion, movement, and white space are the cornerstones of the principle of design.
